Spanish introductions are varied just like they are in English. Learn how to introduce yourself and others in Spanish.
Keep in mind that in the Spanish or Latin cultures people are very respectful of each other especially those whom they don't know or those who are older than them.
In that case when you greet someone for the first time, it is better to say "good afternoon Ms. Garcia, rather than a simple hello "hola" or what's up? or "¿Que Tal?"
Once you get to know each other better, you can then use more informal introductions.
So here we will go over some different forms of Spanish introductions and you will see the difference between the formal and the informal.
| What is your name? (Formal) | ¿Cómo se llama usted? | |
| What is your name? (Informal) | ¿Cómo te llamas tú? | |
| My name is Angelica | Me llamo Angelica | |
| I am Julio | Soy Julio | |
| I would like to introduce Mr. Garcia | Quiero presentarle al Señor Garcia. | |
| I would like to introduce Mrs. Perez | Quiero presentarle a la Señora Perez. | |
| May I introduce Mrs Garcia | Permítame presentar a la señora Garcia | |
| ------ my son | ------ mi hijo | |
| ------ my daughter | ------ mi hija | |
| ------ my sister | ------ mi hermana | |
| ------ my brother | ------ mi hermano |
| It's nice to meet you | Mucho Gusto | |
| It's a pleasure | Es un placer | |
| Enchanted/Delighted (f) | Encantado | |
| Enchanted/Delighted (m) | Encantada | |
| Delighted to meet you | Encantado a conocerla | |
| The pleasure is mine, thanks. | Igualmente, gracias |
Notice that there is a difference in endings for encantado/a. This is because in Spanish certain words take on masculine and feminine attributes. So if you are a female you would say encantada and if you are a male you say encantado. The same goes for people. See the table below, the words for son and daughter have different endings based on their gender.`
| Where are you from? (Formal) | ¿De dónde es usted? | |
| Where are you from? (Informal) | ¿De dónde eres tú? | |
| Im am from the United States | Soy de Estados Unidos* | |
| Where do you work? | ¿En dónde trabajas? | |
| I work in a bank | Trabajó en el banco | |
| What do you do? | ¿En qué trabajas tú? | |
| I work in business | Trabajo en los negocios. |
* I have heard this both ways.
You can say "Soy de los Estados Unidos" or "Soy de Estados Unidos"
