Spanish is the third most spoken language in the world and is spoken in 23 different countries. As of today 329 million people in the world are native Spanish speakers. If you live in the United States, you are bound to run into people who speak Spanish every single day.
The average age of Spanish speakers in the U.S is 24.8 years old, and the U.S holds the 5th largest Spanish speaking population in the world. You don't even have to do the math to realize that those numbers will simply increase in the years to come.
Obviously, as stated above, one of the reasons to study Spanish is that it is a pretty popular language, spoken in all South American countries outside of Brazil, all of central America and of course in Mexico and Spain, not to mention parts of the Caribbean and Equatorial Guinea - Malabo in Africa. Just knowing how to speak Spanish, opens up the doors for you to communicate with a very large range of people worldwide.
Imagine how good it will feel to sit in a restaurant in a foreign, Spanish speaking country and order your entire meal in Spanish? I know how good it feels, it makes you all warm and fuzzy inside knowing that you accomplished exactly what you set out to do.
Don't get me wrong, you can certainly travel to most Spanish speaking countries, such as Spain, parts of Mexico and Costa Rica, to name a few, and get by without knowing any Spanish at all. But think of the opportunities you will have if you do speak the language. You will be able to see places that you may not be able to see just being a regular non Spanish speaking tourist, and if you are like me, you will take great pleasure in conversing with the locals and learning more about their culture and greatly enhance your travel experience.
Knowing how to speak Spanish, could definitely improve your employment opportunities. It always looks good on a resume if you are bilingual or multilingual. And as the world is getting smaller and smaller with tools such as the internet and ecommerce, and the Spanish population is rapidly increasing, the knowledge of knowing how to speak Spanish will become more and more of a commodity.
Most of all learning Spanish is a lot of fun, and I will do my best on this website to make it fun for you, no one ever should feel that learning a language is a difficult or boring task.
