This is my review of Pimsleur Spanish. Created by Dr. Pimsleur, this format holds a high reputation for being one of the best ways to learn Spanish. In a hurry?....visit the Pimsleur Spanish website right now!
Designed with the "Graduated Interval Recall" technique the Pimsleur approach, is used throughout all of the lessons.
The course is offered in both downloadable and in the form of physical cds. The downloadable version is by far much cheaper than its alternative.
I know how tough it has been for you to try so many products and self study programs and I completely understand how painful it is to search endlessly for a program that isn't boring and doesn't require a great degree of discipline. I have definitely been there.
Because of that I know how great it feels when you finally get your hands on software that is interesting, practical, and actually covers a variety of real life situations that you will encounter. And let me tell you, Pimsleur Spanish does just that.
You will learn things like how to order food and drinks in a retaurant, how to rent a car, greetings and so on... The one thing I really liked is that they teach you all the numbers in Spanish up to 999, but you really don't notice that you are doing it. The way the lessons are pieced together, you repeat words in such a way that you simply remember them.
Immediately after starting the course you will be involved in conversations with native Spanish speakers. They will move you along at a very comfortable pace as you progress through the course, and you can always repeat.
It is based on simplicity, much like how you learned your native language, by repetition and recognition. It focuses listening and then repeating what you have just heard as you would in normal every day spoken English or any language for that matter.
You will learn verb conjugations, without really realizing it. It is a very natural way of learning Spanish, and I am very impressed with it.
Unfortunately, there is no free trial with Pimsleur Spanish. The best that they offer is an introduction to the complete course that is very low cost. It consists of the first 10 lessons in the 30 lesson series of Pimsleur comprehensive Level I, along with a handy user's guide to help you understand how the Pimsleur method works.

Pimsleur Spanish is a wonderful learn Spanish program, and after completing the first 30 lessons you will find in Level I, I guarantee you will not only feel very confident in trying out your Spanish on other people, but you will start picking up more and more Spanish here and there if you pay attention. And you will be "chomping at the bit" to get started with Level II.
It is fun to listen to and you will learn conversational Spanish quite quickly.
You also don't have to sit at your computer while doing your lessons.
You can learn Spanish easily knowing that you are "killing two birds with one stone".....
Imagine yourself...
doing your laundry or cleaning the house, or going for you morning job, or how about that boring long commute to work in the morning? and learning Spanish in the process. You haven't had to take any time out of your busy schedule, you have just killed time instead.
The only reasons why I don't give it as high a rating as the other programs I have used and reviewed, is that it is only available in audio format so there are no interactive lessons.
Another downfall of Pimsleur Spanish is that it is quite formal. After using it in the beginning, and talking to my Spanish speaking friends, I noticed that a lot of the ways in which they teach to you phrase things is formal enough that you will very rarely talk to someone like that in real life. It just took a little adjusting and I was on track.
Although Pimsleur Spanish is a top quality product, I have to admit that out of all the learn Spanish programs I have tried, Rocket Spanish is number one and Visual Link Spanish comes in second.
